The best AI visibility tool in 2026 depends on what you are: Profound for enterprise teams with budget, Otterly.AI for small teams who want it running today, Peec AI for competitive benchmarking, and citeOS if you are a crypto brand. There is no single winner, and any list claiming one is selling you something.
We audit AI visibility for a living, which makes writing this list awkward. We are one of the eight products on it. So the scoring criteria are published below, our own entry is marked, and you should discount it accordingly.
What every tool here does is roughly the same thing: send buyer-style prompts to AI engines on a schedule, record whether your brand is named and whether your domain is cited, and chart it over time. The differences are coverage, depth, price, and whether the product understands your category.
Disclosure. citeOS is our product. It appears in this comparison because leaving it out would be a different kind of dishonesty. It is scored on the same published criteria as everything else and it does not rank first.
Each tool was scored 0 to 10 across five equally weighted criteria: engine coverage, prompt depth, source attribution, reporting usefulness, and price relative to what you get. Scores come from hands-on use and public documentation, not vendor briefings.
Five criteria, weighted equally, because weighting them differently would just encode our own preferences:
Match the tool to your constraint rather than to a leaderboard. Budget and a dedicated team point to Profound. Speed and low cost point to Otterly.AI or Rankscale. Competitive tracking points to Peec AI. A single vertical points to a vertical product.
| Tool | Best for | Score | The honest read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Profound | Enterprise teams with budget | 8.6 | Buy it if you have the budget and someone whose actual job this is. Overkill for a five-person team. |
| Otterly.AI | Small teams who want it running today | 7.9 | The default recommendation for teams under fifty people. |
| Peec AI | Marketing teams tracking competitors | 7.7 | Pick it if your reporting is framed around competitors rather than absolute visibility. |
| citeOS | Crypto and Web3 brands specifically | 7.8 | Useless to you if you are not in crypto. That is a deliberate trade, not an oversight. |
| AthenaHQ | Agencies managing several brands | 7.4 | The pick if you are an agency rather than a brand. |
| Adobe Brand Visibility | Existing Adobe stack customers | 7.2 | Buy it for the stack fit, not for the product. |
| Scrunch AI | Teams wanting agent-level detail | 7.0 | Worth a look if your problem is technical rather than editorial. |
| Rankscale | Solo operators and consultants | 6.6 | Start here if you have never run a check and do not want to talk to anyone. |
Profound wins on capability and scores 8.6. It is the most complete product here and the only one operating at real scale. If you have the budget and someone whose job this is, start there and stop reading.
Otterly.AI is the best value at 7.9. Bootstrapped, quick to set up, and it answers the question most teams actually have, which is whether they appear at all.
If you are in crypto, a horizontal tool will underserve you, and that is true whether you pick ours or not. Category prompts, competitor sets and which sources carry weight all differ enough in crypto that a general product gets the shortlist wrong. Judge citeOS on that claim rather than on our score.
Eight products, each with its features, who it suits and where it stops. They cluster into three groups: enterprise platforms, small-team trackers, and specialist tools built for one workflow or one industry.
The most complete product here and the only one operating at real scale. Reporting goes deeper than anyone else, and the research they publish is genuinely useful even if you never buy. Priced for companies with a dedicated search hire, which is the honest catch.
Verdict. Buy it if you have the budget and someone whose actual job this is. Overkill for a five-person team. Visit Profound
The cheapest credible entry point in the category. Coverage is narrower than Profound and the reporting is simpler, which for most small teams is a feature rather than a fault. It answers the question most people actually have, which is whether they appear at all.
Verdict. The default recommendation for teams under fifty people. Visit Otterly.AI
Strong on the comparative question: not just do I appear, but do I appear more than the three companies I lose deals to. Newer than the leaders, and the category taxonomy is still broad rather than deep in any one vertical.
Verdict. Pick it if your reporting is framed around competitors rather than absolute visibility. Visit Peec AI
Ours, so weigh this accordingly. The only vertical product in the set. The prompt library, competitor sets and source scoring are built for crypto rather than adapted to it, which is the entire argument for it and also the entire argument against it.
Verdict. Useless to you if you are not in crypto. That is a deliberate trade, not an oversight. Visit citeOS
Built with agency workflows in mind, which matters if you are reporting to more than one stakeholder and cannot afford a seat per client. Less depth per brand than the leaders, which is the trade you make for breadth.
Verdict. The pick if you are an agency rather than a brand. Visit AthenaHQ
Arrived through acquisition rather than being built for this, and the integration seams still show. If your reporting already lives in Adobe and procurement is the bottleneck, the convenience is real and worth something.
Verdict. Buy it for the stack fit, not for the product. Visit Adobe Brand Visibility
The most technically interesting product in the set and the one that thinks hardest about the crawl layer rather than the answer layer. Younger, so the historical data you get on day one is thinner.
Verdict. Worth a look if your problem is technical rather than editorial. Visit Scrunch AI
Cheap, quick and genuinely useful for answering the first question. It is not trying to be a platform and does not pretend to be.
Verdict. Start here if you have never run a check and do not want to talk to anyone. Visit Rankscale
Every tool in this category measures visibility. None of them create it. Measurement tells you where you stand and which pages earned citations, but closing the gap is editorial and distribution work that no dashboard performs for you.
Worth knowing before you buy any of them. In our own corpus of 4,969 citation events across 10 audited crypto brands, 89% of citations pointed at a domain the brand does not own. Third-party listicles carried 48% of traceable citations.
That pattern is not unique to crypto. Semrush found LinkedIn alone accounts for tens of thousands of cited URLs in AI answers, and Kevin Indig's behavioural study of ChatGPT shopping tasks found the vast majority ended without an open-web click at all. If you want the mechanics from the engines themselves, Google Search Central documents how AI features select content and OpenAI publishes its crawler list.
That means most of what a tool will show you is happening on pages you cannot edit. The dashboard is the diagnosis. The work is getting onto other people's pages, and that is a distribution problem rather than a software one.
If you want the free version of the diagnosis first, our AI visibility checker walkthrough shows how to run it by hand in twenty minutes before you spend anything.
Software that sends buyer-style prompts to AI answer engines on a schedule, records whether your brand is named in the response and whether your domain is cited as a source, and tracks both over time. The good ones also tell you which specific pages earned the citation.
You can check manually and you should, at least once, before buying anything. Twenty minutes with four prompt shapes across five engines tells you whether you have a problem. A tool earns its cost when you need the tracking to be consistent, scheduled and comparable over months.
Entry products start in the low tens of dollars a month, mid-market tools run a few hundred, and enterprise platforms run into four figures monthly. Price tracks engine coverage and prompt volume more than anything else.
At minimum ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Gemini. Claude matters for technical and B2B categories. Coverage of an engine your buyers never use is a number on a dashboard rather than a signal.
No, and the difference decides whether you get the customer. A citation means the engine used your page as a source. A mention means it said your name. Your page can be the source in an answer that recommends a competitor, which is the most common failure we see.
