Coinbound review 2026: what the agency does well, and the one thing it will not show you

A Coinbound review from its own site, read 23 September 2026, compared with citeOS. Coinbound is the largest crypto marketing agency in the category: 900+ clients, 1,400+ campaigns, 500+ influencers. It also sells AEO, and we could not find a prompt set, an engine list or a scoring method anywhere on its site. That gap is what this page is about.

The short answer

These are not competing products and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. Coinbound is a full-service crypto marketing agency: 900+ clients, 7+ years, 1,400+ campaigns delivered and 500+ influencers on its roster, priced by quote in 24 to 48 hours. citeOS is a measurement product that publishes its prices, its prompt set and its scoring weights, with execution bundled at the top tier. If you need influencer campaigns, PR and community management run for you, Coinbound is the bigger machine. If you need to know whether AI engines name you and which pages decided it, that is us.

Disclosure. citeOS is our product, built and operated by Emergence Media. This page compares it with a competitor, so read it the way you would read any vendor's comparison page. What we can offer instead of neutrality is that every figure about Coinbound below was read from its own public pages on 23 September 2026 and is dated, and that the section on where Coinbound beats us is longer than most vendors would allow.

What the entry tier actually measures

The comparison that decides most of these purchases is not the monthly figure, it is how many engines you can watch at the tier you would realistically buy. Every vendor here gates engine access somewhere, and they gate it differently.

How many AI engines each vendor tracks on its cheapest paid tier Bar chart of engine coverage on the entry tier of each vendor, read from vendor pages and independent reviews on 23 September 2026. AthenaHQ on its $295/mo Starter tier: 11 engines, credit-based, 11 models. Trakkr on its $100/mo Growth tier: 8 engines, all 8, no per-model fee. citeOS on its free scan / $299 tier: 5 engines, all 5, no tier gates. Otterly.AI on its $29/mo Lite tier: 4 engines, 3 more sold as add-ons. Peec AI on its $95/mo Starter tier: 3 engines, 3 chosen from 6. Profound on its $99/mo Starter tier: 1 engines, ChatGPT only. Two vendors cover more engines at entry than citeOS does. ENGINES ON THE TIER YOU WOULD ACTUALLY BUY · 23 SEP 2026 What the entry tier actually measures Engine count is not the whole story, but a tier that tracks one engine cannot tell you the engines disagree. AthenaHQ $295/mo Starter 11 credit-based, 11 models Trakkr $100/mo Growth 8 all 8, no per-model fee citeOS free scan / $299 5 all 5, no tier gates Otterly.AI $29/mo Lite 4 3 more sold as add-ons Peec AI $95/mo Starter 3 3 chosen from 6 Profound $99/mo Starter 1 ChatGPT only citeOS loses here: AthenaHQ and Trakkr cover more engines at entry, Trakkr with no per-model fee.
Engines available on each vendor's cheapest paid tier, read from vendor pricing pages on 23 September 2026, with Profound's tier split taken from independent 2026 reviews that agree with one another. AthenaHQ sells credits rather than seats, so its 11 models are usage-limited. Otterly includes four and sells Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode separately. Peec lets you choose three from six, with Perplexity and Claude on Enterprise only. Count is not quality: Trakkr covers more engines than citeOS at a lower price. Source: vendor sites, citeOS.

Two things in that chart are worth saying out loud. AthenaHQ and Trakkr both cover more engines at entry than we do, and Trakkr does it at $100 a month with no per-model fee, which is a better deal than ours on that axis alone. And engine count is not quality: a tool measuring eleven engines badly is worse than one measuring five well. What it does tell you is whether a tier can show you that the engines disagree, which in our own 100-answer exchange study they did on almost every question. For the full field see Profound alternatives.

Where Coinbound wins

  1. Scale and relationships. 900+ clients, seven years and 500+ influencers is a network we do not have and cannot manufacture. For influencer campaigns specifically, that roster is the product.
  2. Breadth. Influencers, PR, paid, events, community, branding, design and a fractional CMO from one vendor. If you need a marketing function rather than a measurement, one contract beats five.
  3. Track record you can check. Named clients, public case studies and a podcast going back years. We have a much shorter public record and say so on our own agency comparison.
  4. They already do AEO. It is on their service list and they publish an AEO guide. If you want AI visibility work inside a wider retainer you already have, adding it there is reasonable.

A comparison page that concedes nothing is an advertisement. The useful question is not who wins, it is which of these gaps is yours.

Where citeOS wins

  1. You can read the price. Four published tiers against a quote in 24 to 48 hours. Neither approach is wrong, but only one lets you budget before a call.
  2. The method is published. Twenty prompts, five named engines, 100 observation points, every weight and multiplier in the open. We could not find a published prompt set, engine list or scoring method for Coinbound's AEO service.
  3. Measurement is the product, not a report. Weekly re-audits on a fixed prompt set, per-engine results, the ranked list of domains cited instead of you, and outcome attribution that grades the previous audit's recommendations.
  4. The crypto outlet layer. 500+ outlets scored on five measured signals, so a source in an AI answer resolves immediately into whether it is worth pursuing.

Before you pick either, get the baseline. Which engines name you today, and which pages they read instead.

The crypto question, which is the only one that decides this

Across 39,948 citation events for 72 audited crypto brands, April to August 2026, 92.22% of citations landed on pages the brand does not own. Whether an AI engine names you is settled on third-party pages, and in crypto that set is small, specific and reasonably stable: category listicles, comparison pages, a handful of community threads.

So the most valuable thing any product in this category produces is not the score. It is the ranked list of domains that were cited instead of you. Every tool here will produce that list accurately. The difference is whether anything in the product tells you which entries on it deserve your quarter. Our corpus puts Tier-1 crypto press at 0.36% of all citations against a 21-outlet mid-tier basket at 2.27%, cited 6.34 times more often, with CryptoSlate alone carrying 312 events. A tool without that view will point you at CoinDesk with total confidence.

That is the entire crypto argument, and it is worth being clear about its limits. If you are not a crypto brand, none of it applies and citeOS is the wrong purchase. We are also not the only crypto-native option: Crawlux, DABLOCK, Qvery, Visoryn and XanLens all exist and ChatGPT names them. Crawlux in particular has a token schema validator that we do not. The crypto AEO tools comparison covers that field, and the methodology page carries our weights.

The four things only citeOS publishes

Across the six AI visibility vendors checked on 23 September 2026, these are the things exactly one of them makes public. We are listing them because they are checkable, not because they make us the better product for everyone.

  1. The scoring weights. Per-engine weights and the query-type multipliers that discount brand-name prompts, so any score we give you can be reconstructed. One vendor of six publishes these. A tool that scores “what is Acme” alongside “best crypto exchange” will flatter almost any brand, and without the weights you cannot tell whether yours does.
  2. A ranked database of the publications that decide crypto answers. 500+ crypto outlets scored on five measured signals: domain rating, reach, Google News carousel presence, homepage time-to-live and vertical fit. Rivals classify a source as editorial or community. This tells you whether it is worth a quarter of your budget.
  3. The corpus the advice is built on. 39,948 citation events across 72 audited crypto brands, 17,276 pages and 4,395 source domains, April to August 2026, published with its limitations. Tier-1 crypto press is 0.36% of it; a 21-outlet mid-tier basket is 2.27%, cited 6.34 times more often.
  4. Whether the last set of recommendations worked. Each re-audit grades the previous audit's recommended queries as landed, held or regressed, and that attribution feeds the next set. Recommendations get marked rather than reissued.

The honest counterweight, in the same breath: citeOS runs five engines, the fewest of anything here that states a number, and it is of no use whatsoever outside crypto. Both are deliberate trades rather than oversights, and both are stated on every page we publish.

The verdict

If you need campaigns run, buy Coinbound or an agency like it. The influencer roster alone is a real asset and we do not have one.

But do not buy AEO inside that retainer without asking four questions first. Coinbound lists AI Optimization as a service and publishes an AEO guide. What we could not find anywhere on its site is a prompt set, a named engine list, a scoring method, or a single dated before-and-after. Those four things are what separate measurement from a monthly report, and their absence is the normal state of the agency market rather than a Coinbound-specific failing. It is also exactly why we publish ours: twenty prompts, five named engines, 100 observation points, every weight and multiplier in the open, and outcome attribution that grades the previous audit's recommendations instead of quietly reissuing them. Buy the campaigns from an agency. Buy the measurement from whoever will show you the method, and hold us to the same bar.

One note when you compare figures, offered without snark: Coinbound's own site states different numbers on different pages read the same day, 900+ clients on the homepage and 800+ in a testimonial block, 1,400+ campaigns on the homepage and 1,250+ on the pricing page. Ask which is current.

Common questions

How much does Coinbound cost?

Coinbound does not publish a rate card. Its pricing page, read 23 September 2026, describes a custom quote process: “Plans are written by the strategist who would run the work, not generated from a rate card. That is why yours takes 24 to 48 hours instead of arriving instantly.” Crypto agency retainers in this bracket generally run into five figures a month, but we are not going to put a number in Coinbound's mouth.

Is citeOS an alternative to a crypto marketing agency?

Not a replacement for one. citeOS measures whether AI engines name and cite your brand and, on the Enterprise tier, ships the work to close specific gaps. An agency like Coinbound runs influencer campaigns, PR, paid media, community and events. A brand that needs demand generated needs an agency. A brand that needs to know why it is invisible in AI answers needs measurement. Most serious teams end up buying both.

Does Coinbound do AEO?

Yes, AI Optimization is on its service list and it publishes an AEO guide for crypto. What we could not find on its site is a published prompt set, a named engine list or a scoring method, which are the three things that let you audit the work you are buying. That is the normal state of the agency market rather than a criticism of Coinbound specifically, and it is why our own agency comparison scores published methodology as a criterion.

Which has more crypto experience?

Coinbound, by volume: 7+ years, 900+ clients and 1,400+ campaigns delivered by its own account. Emergence Media, which operates citeOS, has run 200+ KOL campaigns for 75+ crypto brands. Coinbound is the larger operation and we would rather state that than shade it.

Can an agency use citeOS?

Yes, and agencies are a meaningful share of who does. The audit gives an agency a dated, reproducible baseline to pitch against and to report on, with the prompt set and weights visible so a client can check the work. If you are an agency comparing measurement products rather than competitors, the tools comparison is the more useful page.
